Equipment review: Canon 100mm f2.8 USM Macro
Before reading this review please read my general introduction to reviews here
I get a kick out of macro shots. I donít have the patience to lug a tripod around, and Iím not keen on obviously flash lit shots. My preference is to hand hold at fairly wide apertures and hope for the best with more abstract shots.
I tend to use this lens for trips to gardens where I can capture both flowers and family portraits. It does both very well.
The lens is much bigger than the 85mm lens and has an even deeper (but very effective) lens hood. For ease of use I actually prefer the EFs 60mm macro on the 40D as it is much smaller to carry around. Both deliver great results, and the 100mm on a crop camera can be outstanding if you can keep it steady!
